(Manila).- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has instructed financial institutions to eliminate any links that enable in-app gambling access from their payment applications and websites.

Philippine Central Bank Directs Banks and E-Wallets to Eliminate In-App Gambling Access

Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan revealed the directive earlier in the day during a Senate committee hearing.

BSP-supervised institutions—including e-wallet providers, banks, and other financial entities—have been given 48 hours, or until the end of Saturday, 16 August 2025, to comply.

According to the BSP memo, “Suspended in-app gambling access includes any product, service, or feature that redirects an account holder to a gaming or gambling site.”

The central bank explained that the measure was prompted by “a surge in online gambling transactions and its impact on the financial well-being of consumers and their families, as well as the wider social costs.”

The suspension will remain in effect until the BSP finalizes its policy on online gambling payment services.
